Unlike the first weekend in November, this weekend feels like the appropriate time for a Christmas-themed movie. Hence, the release of "The Nativity Story" that covers that travels and story surrounding the birth of Jesus. Whether you're Christian or not, it's impossible to think of Christmas without some connection to this biblical event. The imagery is everywhere, and here we have a movie that appears to give us a birds-eye perspective on the affair.
I'm not expecting high drama here, but rather a live-action re-enactment of the event with some events to fill in the gaps in the story that we aren't provided in the official record. The movie had its premiere at The Vatican, so it comes with pretty good recommendations!
Also opening this weekend, as if to contrast The Nativity Story, are the adventure/horror movie "Turistas" and the comedy "National Lampoon's Van Wilder: The Rise of the Taj." Both strike me as straight-to-video fare.
