The Movieland 8 Theatre in Cheektowaga, New York closed its doors on May 11, 2015. The closure was announced on the theater's web site and Facebook page:
Movieland 8 theatres is closing their doors today after 11 years of business. We are deeply saddened to report this news. We have truly loved every moment of serving our customers and we thank you for your support and business over the years. We hope that the magic of the movies still hold a big part in your lives as it will for us.
Sincerely,
JGM Entertainment
Apparently, they tried a crowdfunding campaign to purchase Digital Cinema Projection systems, but it failed. Obtaining movies on film is becoming more and more difficult, which is why the industry has been warning theaters for quite a few years of the end of film distribution altogether. It would seem the Movieland 8 Theatre was not able to make that transition.
Moviegoers in the area will need to visit the Regal Walden Galleria Stadium 16 nearby for first-run movies, with the closest second-run theater being the Dipson McKinley Mall, which is about eight miles away. For more choices, see the list of theaters nearby.
