Cinemark Holdings, Inc. announced recently that it intends to build a 14-screen movie theater at the Tucson Marketplace at the Bridges development in Tucson, Arizona. The Century-branded movie theater would be located in the northwest portion of the intersection of I-10 and South Kino Parkway.
The new theater will feature Cinemark's Luxury Lounger reclining chairs in all auditoriums. It appears that all 14 will have 4K Digital Cinema Projection systems, with seven capable of 3D presentations.
One auditorium will be Cinemark's XD: Extreme Digital Cinema auditorium, which typically features a larger screen and an upgraded sound system, with a surcharge for the upgraded experience.
“Cinemark currently operates five theatres under our Century brand in the Tucson, Oro Valley and Sierra Vista market,” commented Tim Warner, Cinemark's Chief Executive Officer. "Our new NextGen theatre located at the Tucson Marketplace will be the first complex in Tucson to offer guests our Luxury Lounger recliners and should quickly become recognized as one of the best places in the area to enjoy a great movie-going experience.”
The closest competition for the new theater will be the Century 20 El Con Mall, which is about five miles to the North, and the Harkins Tucson Spectrum 18, which is about a seven mile drive to the southwest. There are also some smaller, independent theaters nearby. Cinemark operates the Century Park Place Mall 20, but that is about eight miles away.
