Madison, WI: Hilldale Closes with a Sound of Music Sing-a-long

Posted on Tuesday, December 19th, 2006 1:25 PM by Scott Jentsch

As I mentioned on November 29th, the Hilldale Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin showed its last movie this past weekend before closing for good. The theater is being replaced in the Hilldale Shopping Center by the Sundance 608, operated by Robert Redford's Sundance Cinemas. The new theater is scheduled to open in Spring 2007.

Rather than just close the doors unceremoniously like some theaters do, operator AGT Enterprises decided to bid the theater a fond farewell by inviting customers to a special sing-a-long version of the first movie shown at the Hilldale, "The Sound of Music."

The Wisconsin State Journal and The Capital Times both reported on the event:

Such things are what showmanship is all about and is too often lacking in the movie theater industry. Kudos to Craig Hussin, manager of the Hilldale Theatre, for coming up with the idea, and to Steve Carpenter of AGT Enterprises for participating in the fun!
