On June 23rd, I mentioned that the Marcus Rivoli Cinema in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, was going to close by the end of the year. That day has come, with the last movie (Open Season) having been shown on Tuesday, December 19, 2006.
A small news item in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says that Marcus Theatres Corp. gave the Cedarburg Landmark Preservation Society (the theater's new owner) all the equipment necessary for showing movies and selling concessions.
According to a submission to the web site Cinema Treasures, the Rivoli opened in 1936. The building was originally a general store built by Friedrich Boerner in the 1880's.
