USA Today Reports from ShoWest in Las Vegas

The ShoWest convention in Las Vegas is the movie industry's major event to publicize upcoming movies and for theater owners to decide what movies to show for the upcoming year.

The first night is the "Independent Showcase" where quite a few smaller films try to get noticed and get some buzz started. Last year, I had the choice of going to see a documentary or "Friends with Money" starring Jennifer Aniston et al.

The latter film was a lackluster effort that was matched by its achievement in the box office, pulling in just over $13 million in the U.S. In contrast, reports from the former showing were positive, and "An Inconvenient Truth" went on to make almost $24 million in the U.S. and over $41 million worldwide ($41M for a documentary!). And, while Al Gore made a personal appearance at that screening, Jennifer Aniston was nowhere to be found...
