What We're Watching: The Jacket

Posted on Thursday, April 27th, 2006. Last Updated on Monday, June 5th, 2006 11:55 AM by Scott Jentsch

One of the many cool features of TiVo is its ability to automatically record movies and TV shows that it thinks you might be interested in, based on the ratings you've given shows. Some find this spooky, but I find it very interesting. While it tends to record more episodes of M*A*S*H (something I've marked with three thumbs-up) than anything else, it picks up some shows that I would not have otherwise selected myself. I would imagine that the TiVo developers would smile at that, since I believe that's the intent they had in creating the feature. Anyway, my TiVo recorded The Jacket, starring Adrien Brody as a war veteran with amnesia who ends up getting convicted of a murder and gets thrown into an asylum for the criminally insane. As if this isn't bad enough, he is subjected to sadistic treatments which involve lots of drugs and being thrown into a morgue drawer for long periods of time. As a result of being placed into the drawer, he is transported in time 15 years into the future. The good news is that he meets pretty Keira Knightley, but the bad news is that he finds out he died a couple of days after being committed to the asylum. Through his time travel during his treatments, he is able to investigate his own death and hopes to affect the future by changing the past. Bottom line is that I gave the movie a "Good" in my Reader Review, and I'd recommend checking it out! Click the Read link for my review and other reviews written by our Readers.
