Apple issued an update last week for its popular Quicktime media application, which can be used as a standalone media player as well as a sidekick for its popular iTunes software.
According the alert we received,
Apple QuickTime contains multiple vulnerabilities. Exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial-of-service condition.
Systems Affected: Apple Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows
Apple QuickTime 7.3 resolves multiple vulnerabilities in the way different types of image and media files are handled. An attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by convincing a user to access a specially crafted image or media file that could be hosted on a web page.
The solution is to update to Quicktime 7.3. Updating can be done from within the Apple Software update application (if installed) or by visiting the Apple Quicktime Download site.
Since we provide links for Quicktime-formatted movie trailers and other videos, I thought it would be worth mentioning here if you have not already updated your software.
