Universal Pictures has announced that the World Premiere for the upcoming drama "Charlie Wilson's War," starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, will be held Monday, December 10, 2007 at the AMC CityWalk Stadium 19 with IMAX in Universal City, California.

The press will arrive at 5:30pm, with celebrities arriving at 6:30pm, and the screening begins at 7:30pm.

Scheduled to appear at the event are cast members Tom Hanks (also a producer), Julia Roberts, Denis O'Hare, and Jud Tylor; director Mike Nichols; screenwriter Aaron Sorkin; producer Gary Goetzman; composer James Newton Howard. Celebrity guests include Angie Harmon, Allison Janney, John Malkovich, Jason Sehorn, and others.

Based on the true story of how Charlie Wilson, an alcoholic womanizer and Texas congressman, persuaded the CIA to train and arm resistance fighters in Afghanistan to fend off the Soviet Union.

With the help of rogue CIA agent, Gust Avrakotos, the two men supplied money, training and a team of military experts that turned the ill-equipped Afghan freedom-fighters into a force that brought the Red Army to a stalemate. However, the result also empowered the Taliban and terrorists including Osama bin Laden.
