So I guess we can blame Spielberg for casting the annoying Shia LeBeouf as Indy's son and the fact that the movie treated Indy as something as a buffoon.
As for Lucas, he's always said his Star Wars and Indy films were meant for kids. It's just that Star Wars IV and Raiders of the Lost Ark turned out a lot better than he visualized.
I never understood the appeal of LeBeouf as an actor, and especially when Indy 4 came out, he seemed to be in everything. That gets tiring. Plus, I disliked the Transformers movie, so there was guilt by association as well.
There were a lot of things done right, including bringing back Marion, and it was great to see Harrison Ford back in the fedora again. Unfortunately, they took the humor that worked so well in Last Crusade and took it a step or two too far.
