The following are new releases opening in theaters in the next week.

Buried
Paul Conroy is not ready to die.

But when he wakes up six feet underground with no idea of who put him there or why, life for the truck driver and family man instantly becomes a hellish struggle for survival.

Buried with only a cell phone and a lighter, his contact with the outside world and ability to piece together clues that could help him discover his location are maddeningly limited.

Poor reception, a rapidly draining battery, and a dwindling oxygen supply become his worst enemies in a tightly confined race against time, fighting panic, despair and delirium, Paul has only ninety minutes to be rescued before his worst nightmare comes true.

Friction
Filmmaker Cullen Hoback travels to a private high school where he creates a movie about a real couple and the student who comes between them. Through the process of making the film, hidden truths about the real lives of the actors playing themselves are revealed, and the line between fiction and reality blurs.

What remains is part documentary, part fiction, in a one of a kind story that will keep you guessing long after the shattering conclusion.

Howl
Young Allen Ginsberg -- poet, counter-culture adventurer and chronicler of the Beat Generation -- recounts in his famously confessional, leave-nothing-out style the road trips, love affairs and search for personal liberation that led to the most timeless and electrifying work of his career, the poem "Howl."

Meanwhile, in a San Francisco courtroom, "Howl" is on trial. Prosecutor Ralph McIntosh sets out to prove that the book should be banned, while suave defense attorney Jake Ehrlich argues fervently for freedom of speech and creative expression.

The proceedings veer from the comically absurd to the fervently passionate as a host of unusual pit generation against generation and art against fear in front of conservative Judge Clayton Horn. The trial's heated controversy and Ginsberg's provocative memories are woven around "Howl" itself, its images of ecstasy and anguish, of desire, madness and wonder, brought to vivid, visceral life in a fever dream of inventive animation.

Echoing the vastness and originality of Ginsberg's poem, "Howl" mashes up genres and rides wild emotions as it reveals all the ways a fearless work of art impacted its creator and the world.

Starring James Franco, Mary-Louise Parker, David Strathairn, Jon Hamm, Treat Williams, Bob Balaban, Jeff Daniels

A Mother's Courage: Talking Back to Autism (Solskinsdrengurinn)
A documentary that tells the story of Margret, a mother who has done everything in her power to help her son. Keli is eleven years old and is severely autistic - his mother doesn't even know if he understands Icelandic, let alone other languages. Even if Margret holds no unrealistic expectations on behalf of Keli, she has the quenchless thirst for knowledge about the mysterious and complex condition that autism undeniably is.

Along the way, Margret meets other families and hears their unique stories about how they too have been touched by autism.

On a course set to include the United States and Europe, she meets with scientists in the field of autism and autism therapies and the parents of autistic children who share her passion: to break down the wall between the children and the surrounding world.

This journey becomes lengthier and more dramatic than she envisioned at the start. During the trip, she catches a glimpse of hope that her son can be helped to a larger degree than previously assumed.

Perhaps it is possible to break down the wall of autism and get to know the individual behind it?
