We really enjoyed this movie, predictable as it was it was good. They can still make a good movie without a lot of sex, violence, and an abundance of bad language. Jul 7, 2011
Tom Hanks and Julie Roberts has big hearts and have good chemistry, but ca't carry "Larry Crowne," a movie that is proof that good and cute doesn't always go together. I saw on television the other day that Tom Hanks dances witha weather girl in ntrying to promote this movie. He's needs to do more than just dance to promote this movie. That reminds me of Tom Cruise sofa juping moment on Oprah. Tom Hanks palys a man who is a employee at a retail store, until he learn that he's got fired for a lack of education amd must gop back to school. If the movie revoved around the place where he worked, this could have been a good movie right there. Hanks go to a communty college where his teacher is Julia roberts whos has a dislike at her profession. I view her character as a PG-13 version of Cameron Diaz character in "Bad Teacher." Minus the pot smoking. The classmates looked like they been bussed in from night school. Only one stand out is Gugu Mbatha-Raw is great as one of Hank's classmates. She's the only stand out in the entire movie. The move's got a big heart, but it needs a strong script and direction to carry that big heart. Jul 12, 2011
Tom Hanks always good. not disappointed this time either. Jul 15, 2011
I agree that the story isn't breaking any new ground and had it featured less engaging performers it wouldn't be worth your time. Having said that I do recommend it as an enjoyable time at the movies. Of course both Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts are imminently watchable but the other performers add to the fun of the film too. Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Talia was electric in her role shepherding Larry Crowne into his new life. Malcom Barrett (of the ill fated series Better Off Ted) was hilarious in his few moments. Cedric the Entertainer is fun as Larry's neighbor. And really that's what adds up to such an enjoyable experience. When you throw this many great performers and character actors into the mix and have the steady hand of Tom Hanks directing you get quite an enjoyable time at the cinema.
