A thriller on a global level. "Contagion" is a thriller about the spead of a airborne virus which affect everyone in it's path. Even those who haven't got the virus will feel the impact. The virus goes from person from personb until martial law was declared. The movie shows us the policial and personal effects as the virus speads across the globe. This is one smart movie. Think about it the next time you are washing your hands.
It's a very good movie, but there is no reason to waste your money on cinema prices when you can see it at home. There are no special effects that warrant seeing it in the theater.

The actors did a great job. Kate Winslet and Jude Law showed some range. The others like Matt Damon, Lawrence Fishburne, Gwyneth Paltrow we've seen then in roles very similar to these. It was all well done.

Social commentary about how society handles problems in a way that often leaves individuals by the way side. A little depressing at best. The true grit and gore of how that scenario would actually and truly go was spared and filled with several still shots and long pauses instead. You might be left feeling like you want to wash your hands at the end.

Disappointing.

This movie never went anywhere. There was no plot. There was no action. I leaned to my husband after what felt like over an hour (was actually about 20 minutes) and said "this might make for a made for TV movie at best...I hope it gets better". It flat-lined right from the start. It felt more like a super long after school special you'd want to show high school kids in biology class.

It was constant thumping music and shots of people walking around or contemplating, intermixed with focusing on inanimate objects (I assume to make us "realize" how everything we touch is infected).

And yet, there was no white knuckling drama. No intense rush to get to a conclusion. At one point we are told the the virus has mutated, and it's like an afterthought that has no impact on anything - not even the drama. I never felt the fear that "this could happen in real life you know". It is definitely NOTHING like the thrilling trailers and commercials promoting it.

Even the characters didn't seem all that concerned. Almost nobody wore masks or gloves in the movie (except in the lab). Nobody tried to stay home, or stay away from touching anyone else. The scientists were working in the lab with this contagion, doctors and nurses were caring for the sick all over, and professionals were doing interviews of the sick people's families, but there were no efforts to have as minimal contact as possible. They didn't even wear masks or keep their distance during the interviews.

I felt about 2 minutes sympathy for the Matt Damon character in the beginning. Every character totally lacked substance. No relationships were built. In fact, many of the characters had nothing to do with each other or the storyline at all - and as their own little plots were completely pointless and mundane.

Obviously they were shooting for realism and seriousness instead of any hollywood type drama or actual story. The result: really boring. If you have never thought about how easy it would be for a disease to spread, maybe you'll find this interesting. I honestly wouldn't watch it again even if I was paid to do it. Way too boring. I'd much rather watch Outbreak or one of the other many pandemic made-TV-movies instead.
