Hello, Hello, Hello this is your favorite movie critic siskel ebertson here to report on this freshly released, highly anticipated addition to the Alien series. Most of you reading this probably aren't old enough to have seen the original Alien in the theater and guess what neither was I (well, mom didn't think so) but I did watch it on tv back in the seventies before the days of video rentals.

For the longest time I was hoping they would do a prequel to Alien so we find out how the aliens came to be on the crashed spaceship and how the ship crashed and so on. I've been like a kid waiting for Chrismas morning ever since the Promethius adds have started running. So today (release day) I ran to the theater to see the movie that would hopefully answer all of my Alien questions.

I was disappointed almost immediately. Some of the casting choices were off... Theron's character acted more the part of an android than the one who was supposed to be the android. And why oh why do they try to make young people look old with poorly done makeup jobs just use old people to play old people. However, I will say that the special effects were fantastic ie the spaceships, the little floating mapping droids and other visual effects but it still goes back to the story. You can dress a story up with all kinds of effects but if the the story stinks nothing's going to help it.

The old story of science clashing with religion is thrown out the window here because one of the lead scientists is wearing her fathers cross and there's a little bit of a religious vibe going on with her but she gets sorely dissappointed in the end... I thought the story line of this movie would go in a completely different direction than it did.

I would say this movie is on par with the original Alien and better than most of the sequels like alien resurrection or alien vs predator but could've been way better. If you have money to burn go see it but if you're on a tight budget it wouldn't hurt to wait for the rental.

Until next time this is siskel ebertson signing off.

A little long at times, but lots of action.

The best science fiction movie in years. "Prometheus" is a science fiction movie that doesn't play it as cute. The film plays it as tough and smart. If you want cute, go see "Men in Black 3." Although it may be a prequel, it doesn't remind me of the movie "Alien." This movie reminds me of "2001: A Space Odyssey." Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender lead a strong cast. But the real star of the movie is Noomi Rapace who played a tough woman's role very well. I also like Fassbender's humanlike character as he molded his character after the character in "Lawrence of Arabia." A group of explorers went to a planet which they discover something shocking. This is Director Ridley Scott's best work as director. I like this movie very much. The best summer movie so far.
I feel like I ordered an entree and I got an appetizer. This was a good movie, but not the great movie I was hoping for.

The cast was adequate with Michael Fastbender and Charlize Theron providing convincing roles. The movie started off very intriguing and then just developed into a common horror movie that takes place in space.

The special effects were outstanding and the story was well thought out. It just fell apart about halfway through. It just got silly then tried to get serious again. It had it's merit but it was just good in my opinion.
