This movie starts out strong, maintains its momentum, but then ends with a rushed sharp left turn that made little sense in the overall scheme of things. Watching Sigourney Weaver debunk paranormal phenomena was fun. She chews up the scene with a demanding presence that's fitting for her character and Cillian Murphy does a good job as her sidekick. When Robert De Niro's character is introduced, the tension generated between the two characters (even though they're not sharing any scenes) is palpable. Speaking of chewing up the scene, De Niro does that, and then starts looking for its family. Irresistable force, meet immovable object. This setup had the makings for a really good conclusion, but the movie fails to deliver when the focus shifts to the assistant, who then gets an assistant to play his sidekick. The cause is sudden and abrupt, and leaves the viewer trying to adjust while the movie complicates things by doing odd things at nearly every turn. The ending tries to wrap things up nicely, almost with the intent of showing you all of the clues the viewer missed throughout the movie, but it only serves to heighten the frustration over how things ended. You might enjoy this, but don't get your hopes up too high and you should be OK. Looking for more opinions?Check out our Featured Movie Reviews for Red Lights. |
