A fun little movie that sums up the Marvel movies that hit theatres in 2014. Four of them in the past four months and all four are good. "The Guardians of the Galaxy" is no9 different from the other Marvel movies. Here we have a group of outlaws who banded together to battle a evil villain. Of the five, I like the raccon the best. The film goes great with a rocking soundtrack which help the movie along. I hope he gets his own movie. Anybody out there wants a sequel? Want a shock? I want one too. Aug 8, 2014

When someone asked me about this movie a few days after I had seen it, my response was "I was expecting The A-Team in space, but I got Avengers Jr. instead." I'm not quite sure what could have made the movie better, but it didn't seem to reach the level of entertainment I went in expecting it to be. Based on the trailers that were released, this was one of the highlights of the summer on my to-see list, but perhaps those expectations set me up for a certain level of disappointment. Chris Pratt does a reasonably good job of carrying the movie, as it really does fall on his shoulders. Just like the Indiana Jones movies relied on Harrison Ford even though he had a great supporting cast, this movie relies on Pratt's ability to play the hero, the wisecracker, and the everyman in order to keep the audience entertained. He does get upstaged by the raccoon and others from time to time, but it's not to a degree where he's lost in the mix and the movie begins to veer off course. Perhaps the biggest failing comes in the form of an unsatisfying villain. Every hero needs a villain who is up to the task, and here, we have a rather unconvincing bad guy whose conclusion is not as satisfying as it would have been had he been more interesting. Typically, Marvel movies have a clip during the credits that is worth staying for, and I would say that you could skip this one if you're the type that doesn't like watching the entire movie, credits and all. I appreciated that the ending left the door open for more stories to be told, without it being an obvious setup for a sequel. If more movies are made, great, but if not, the story is complete. Guardians of the Galaxy may be one of those movies that will be better in subsequent viewings, and I would not avoid seeing it again. Jun 10, 2016
As an avid Avengers fan, Guardians of the Galaxy was something I went into pretty confident that I would like. My expectations were met, and one of my favorite parts was the humor. I loved the depth of the various characters and the sub-conflicts each of them have. Another highlight was the strong thematic elements that really tied the movie together, such as the 70s music ("Awesome Mix Tapes"). Overall, a movie definitely for more mature audiences due to language, gestures, and some innuendos. Jun 26, 2016
A fun, exciting premise with fun, exciting characters and performances, and a fun, exciting setting with a not so fun or exciting villain that takes away from the overall enjoyment. Looking for more opinions?Check out our Featured Movie Reviews for Guardians of the Galaxy. |
