I just went to see The Giver, and to be perfectly honest, I had extremely low expectations. I had read the book by Lois Lowry in English class and fell in love. It was about a futuristic society whose leaders eliminated differences and many othe things that we take for granted in our world. Jonas, the lead, goes through this transformation where he finds out that his world may not be as perfect as it seems.

The trailers were what really set my expectations low. It seemed comletely different than the book, while in reality, the trailers didn't do the movie justice.

The Giver was a wonderful film that, while different from its original book, left you with a strange sense of appreciation. It makes you realize how much you have. It also wasnt majorly deviant from the book. Yes, there were a few minor details changed, but for book-lovers out there, you will be fine. The movie was a great match for the book.

Overall, whether you've read the book or not, I highly recommend seeing this movie. Although it would not be a movie for the whole family due to certain images and concepts brought up, the film makes you think, so be prepared to come away wowed!

I've never read the book, and I'm old enough to be the parent of the target demographic for the book and this movie, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

The use of color as a way of conveying the difference between how the characters perceived their surroundings was a nice touch, and it helped to drive home how wonderful things can be, even though we tend to take them for granted. It's that concept that was the take-home principle for me, and it's why I felt that the movie was successful and worth watching.

Those familiar with many recent young adult novels/movies are going to recognize the primary plot points here. A teen coming of age in a dystopian society goes through a selection process in which they find that they are special in some way, and they find out just how corrupt their society really is, and they alone need to find a way to overcome all the obstacles set before them to achieve some sort of greatness.

Even though it's familiar territory, The Giver does a good job of telling the story with an engaging story and good performances by veteran and young actors alike.

A really bad movie that doesn't seen to have a sense of direction. there is nothing to like about this movie which is based on the best selling science fiction novel whoch for some strange reason is turned into a empty movie. The cast were there but they wren';t given anything to do. A young man is given the job to learn from the elder played by Jeff Bridges about the past. Many people who love ion the village look like the village from the 1960's TV series "The Prisoner." After about a few monutes, the film went downhill quickly. By the middle of the final act we get to see the young man with a baby in the middle of nowhere. And I'm feel trapped in the movie. Maryl Streep is in the movie, but but doesn't do much with her character. If you can make sense out nof this movie, you did much better than me.

I kept thinking this movie just had to get better - I looked at my watch an hour later and wondered how much more I could take of this movie - should I leave and do something constructive. I said the endings gotta be good to save the movie like they sometimes do - Nope.

This movie was the most boring non sensible movie I have seen. Even Meryl Streep wasn't good - it devalued her as an actress.

No explaining why they believe the options they choose will work. Not a lot of explanation in general, other than why they do what they do to start with. Unrealistic escape plan.
