Just not that impressed. Aug 30, 2016
"Ben-Hur" is a weak faith-based version of a movie which became an epic in 1959 which won 11 Academy Awards. The film's nothing more than a cliff-note version of the 1959 classic. The original version directed by William Wyler which came out that year has a running time of 3 hours and 44 minuted long. This version only ran 2 hours and three minutes. Even this version is shorter than the 1925 silent classic. The best thing in the movie is the chariot race scene. But still the chariot race scene in the 1959 film and the 1925 version is much better. Plus in new version Jesus had more screen time. There's nothing much to like. I'll probably recommend the movie 1) to people who never saw the 1925 and 1959 version of the movie, 2) never watch Turner Classic Movies, 3) never heard of Turner Classic Movies. The 2016 version of Ben Hur is the weakest of the three remakes. Sep 1, 2016
A good visual style, but this film lacks a compelling script. Looking for more opinions?Check out our Featured Movie Reviews for Ben-Hur. |
