I'm not much of a fan of the Star Trek series,Although I find the British TV series "Dr. Who" to be more liking. I like the reboot of the original cast and the joy of the new reboot cast has continue into 'Star Trek: Beyond." The crew of the Enterprise was attack by an alien name Krull who destroy the ship and stranded the crew on a deserted planet. Chris pine and Zachary Quinto gave good performances, but there are two stand outs in the movie Simon Pegg not only act but is co-writer in the movie. Arton Yelchin who died about a month back has put everything into his performance. This is not the best of the Star Trek movies, but I had fun with the movie.

A good new addition to the Star Trek franchise. All of the performances are on point. Pine, Quinto, Urban, Saldana, Pegg, Cho, Yelchin, and Idris Elba all are a great, complementary ensemble cast as Kirk, Spock, Bones, Uhura, Scotty, Sulu, Chekov, and the villain Krall respectively. The plot and script are refreshing and fun, with interesting twists in between. Clearly not the best Star Trek film, but Beyond delivers in every way.

Well the reviews all said it was OK or less. I just want to say I have seen all of the Star Trek movies from 1-1 day and this was just as good as any of the others.

I recommend this to the fans and the newbies...it was full of action, had a good plot and everyone got to show their stuff.

RIP Anton Yelchin (a.k.a. Mr. Checkov)

Not impressive but ok.

Star Trek Beyond keeps the storyline of the rebooted Star Trek franchise moving forward without sending it into a tailspin, which is what has happened to sequels in many other franchises. However, I'm not sure that this installment has done anything to elevate the franchise, either. Perhaps it's a stepping stone that will be appreciated better once its place among what are sure to be future sequels is determined.

My favorite aspect of this installment is less Chris Pine. There's plenty of James T. Kirk, but he seems toned down compared to the previous installments. Much less petulant, and perhaps a little more mature, which is a welcome change. Based on his recent turn in Hell or High Water, we now know that Pine is capable of better acting, so hopefully he will continue to spread his thespian wings as Kirk.

This is a blockbuster movie through and through. If you watch it on a small TV with soundbar or (gasp) a phone/tablet, you're just not going to get the full impact that the movie deserves. This isn't a movie that leans heavily on dialogue and short witty scenes between actors. There's plenty of action, and you're just not going to be able to appreciate that on a small screen and/or a miniscule speaker system.

I watched this on a Netflix Blu-ray rental with Dolby Atmos, and while the sound was good, it is not one of those discs that really show off what Atmos is capable of.

Sometimes, the best that one can hope for with a sequel is that it doesn't spoil that which came before. This movie accomplishes that. In rare situations, a sequel can match and even eclipse the previous movie; elevating both movies as a result. Star Trek Beyond doesn't quite meet that level, but sequels rarely do.
