If you have any knowledge of the Bible, you will start seeing problems almost immediately. Of course this is a fictional movie and it is understood that they have a certain license to ad-lib...but just understand that if you are going for a movie that adheres to the Bible, this is not what you are looking for. It is a nice movie, no cursing but there are some scenes that may not be suitable for young kids, (like dead bodies). I was hoping for more but in my mind, I knew this might be a bit of a let-down. It was much much better than the Hollywood production of NOAH. Feb 23, 2016
It was a good movie, not always factual, but it's a movie not a documentary. It does send a good message. Feb 27, 2016
Good movie. As mentioned, it's not a documentary, it's a movie. It has it's gory moments, but perhaps that is what it was like in those times. A lot of it is factual, but some of it is for theatrical purposes. Mar 21, 2016

Risen takes some liberties with the source material (that being the Bible) but it is a fictional representation so they do have some creative license. Risen tells the story of a Clavius (Joseph Fiennes), a Roman Tribune in Judea charged with the complex task of finding Jesus' body after he is crucified and risen from the dead. Clavius has the help of Lucius (Tom Felton), someone who aspires to be what Clavius is. Clavius denies Jesus' rising, and has to prove his beliefs that Jesus is dead. While Risen is not completely accurate to the Biblical stories, it is still, by a landslide, the best faith based movie in recent memory. Great performances and a familiar story told from a different perspective. Looking for more opinions?Check out our Featured Movie Reviews for Risen. |
