This is a monster mash of a movie. "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" is a fun filled action thriller about pitting one monster against another. it's been five years since the attack on Sam Francisco and Earth is gearing up for another round of monster battles. the monster are more realistic than the monsters that were used in the early 1960's. Watching those monsters destroying cities and battle other monsters are a total joy for me. I'm glad that Vera Farmiga and Sally Hawkins are in the movie. I love both women. That makes me like this movie a lot more.

I really enjoyed the 2014 movie, but much like what happened with the sequel to Pacific Rim, this one was a disappointment.

These are monster movies, so the humans are supporting characters that just need to not get in the way. Unfortunately, plenty of humans get in the way and the movie drags every time it tries to focus on the villain, the well-meaning scientist, or the tortured father. The best parts are the monsters and their interactions. There's no need for additional human drama.

It's possible that I'm being unreasonably harsh, but until some day when I can muster the ambition to watch it again (perhaps before Godzilla vs. Kong comes out), the best rating I can give Godzilla: King of the Monsters is a Wait for Rental. When renting it, make sure you have a backup just in case. I recommend Kong: Skull Island if you need to scratch a a monster movie itch.
