Two guys reflecting on their past life and trying to prove to themselves that they are not as old as they really are. Some great scenery, but the story line kind of drags along. No real action, just two guys reminiscing the past as they walk the trail. Sep 15, 2015
A film that doesn't go anywhere, even if it goes somewhere, it's not going anywhere. The movie stars Robert Redford and Nick Nolte. Two actors with past film glory are stuck together in one unfunny comedy. If that movie was made 20 years ago it could have starred Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau who could do with the material much better than with Redford and Nolte. The film is based on the book by Bill Bryson, he plays a travel writer who goes on the Appalachian trial with Nick Nolte. The chemistry between the two doesn't seen to work and the the only good moments is the background shots of the trial.Besides the trial, the only good thing that I like in the movie are Emma Thompson who strill looks beautiful and Mary Steenburgan who me and her follow each other on Twitter.A few years ago,the term term Appalachian Trial is referred to a politcal sexual scandal. I though about that while I was watching the movie. ight as well bring it up sinnce nothing much happens in the movie anyway. Sep 19, 2015

Good adventure, comedy, travelogue played superbly by Redford and Nolte. Jun 26, 2016
After seeing this movie initially in theaters when it came out, I was very intrigued. I knew my grandfather had a copy of the book that the film was based off of, so I borrowed it from him and read it. I highly recommend the book. While I appreciated the movie a little bit more after reading the book, it still didn't do full justice to the scope of the adventure of the novel. Redford and Nolte do have good chemistry with each other, but much of the comedy is forced and plays too much on the ages of the actors. The movie just doesn't quite land on all of the levels that the book does, which is why I do recommend reading the book, then viewing the film to compare.
