While The House doesn't really stand alone as a great movie, it still is better than many other comedies this year so far. Will Ferrell plays the "dad" character that he's played many times over now, and it's not very refreshing. While there are some laughs to be had, and the tone is consistent, it still doesn't hit every beat I was hoping for.

There is a saying, the House always wins, but in this movie the film titled "The House" losses big. It's wants to be a comedy, but the film is violent to cover up the fact that nothing's funny in the movie. There was a scene where the city council was shown a picture of a penis that was drawn on the football field, the same photo that was shown in "Fist Fight." There were a few goo jokes that work very well, but that about it in the joke department. Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler are a married couple who is looking to raise money for their daughter's college and i the process they started a casino. When they do, there was trouble from the city council and local mobsters. there are scenes of disembodiment where a limb is cut off and blood squired off water coming out from a fire hose. On top of that, there nothing much to laugh at. A good plot, but good plots doesn't carried a movie.
