I loved this movie, it was absolutely perfect for what it needed to be. Perfect for a girls night, family night, or even curled up in your pjs avoiding essays movie nights. Whether or not you understand the speech that the mom gives, this movie offers an amazing perspective on womanhood and a very universal experience. Absolutely watch whenever you get the chance.

Barbie knows what it wants to do, and it sets about doing it. No apologies. You really gotta respect a movie that has something to say, and goes ahead and says it, especially when it can do it effectively while also being an enjoyable experience.

Perhaps its only downfall is that message movies can fall flat with some. If the message doesn’t get through, the whole reason for the movie is lost. I get the impression that it strikes a chord with 20-something women the best, so if you don’t know why it was the phenomenon of Summer 2023, maybe a conversation with, or watching it with, a 20-something woman will help. As a very not 20-something woman, I still found it entertaining on its own merits.

I'm not sure that I would watch this multiple times on my own choice, but I wouldn't be against watching it again if the opportunity arose.

This movie has quickly become one of my comfort movies. It's the perfect combination of thoughtful, witty, wry, and empowering -- just the thing to expect from Great Gerwig. You can tell in every actor's performance how much they believe in the message that this movie has to say, which makes it all the more fun to watch. While some may think that the message is too overt, I would argue that the overtness is absolutely necessary, and it also manages to include a more nuanced, tricky-to-grasp thesis underneath the Primer on Feminism that it appears at first glance. Overall, it was such a fun film to see both in theaters and receive as a Christmas gift. A wonderful watch for people of all walks of life.
