Great characters and amazing scares make this adaptation of IT one of the best horror films in recent memory!

Not much of a movie. Steven King's 1986 novel turn into a 1990 mini series (I saw most of the min-series over the weekend) and watching this movie has left me joyless. A monster emerged ever 27 years to kill the children in the neighborhood and a group of kids has banded together to take the monster down. The creature disguise himself as a clown to lure children and he can turn into anyone he wants. the monster isn't the only one that the kids had to face. They face bullies and parents who don't understand them. Many of them look down on them. there isn't one kind adult in the movie. there is very little to like in the movie. the film was broken up in two parts, the second part of It will be shown in 2019, probably about the kids as adult battling the clown again. I hope it's better than the first, but I'm not holding my breath.

Preface: I don't usually see horror/thriller movies in theatres

Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. As somebody who isn't a huge fan of horror/thriller films, I was both scared and entertained by It. The cast of kids in The Losers Club all give great performances, and Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise was eerie and creepy. There are lots of jump scares, but that's all It has to offer. There's creepy imagery that burns into your head. If you like horror movies, you should probably see It. If you're not into horror movies, you should probably see It, because it's a well-made movie nonetheless.

As a horror movie, the first few minutes of IT are the scariest. As a coming-of-age movie that showcases an adventure of a bunch of young-teenagers in a small town before structured sports and technology isolated kids and prevented from hanging out and having adventures, it's much more effective. In this way, I think the movie should be looked at as an adventure with horror undertones.

I've not read the Stephen King book upon which this movie is based, nor have I seen the TV mini-series with Tim Curry in the role of the clown. After seeing this movie, it might be interesting to give that a look, but it won't be at the top of my to-watch list.
