A crazy good performance from Margot Robbie, and a wonderful turn for Sebastian Stan and Allison Janney make this one of the most surprising and interesting films of 2017. Check out my full thoughts here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8JIvGse2vM&t=53s Jan 25, 2018
the only thing that I can remember from the 1994 Winter Olympics is the incident in which skater Nancy Karrigan was kneecap by someone who is associated by Tonya Harding. But that incident, in which it was called "The Incident" in the movie is just a small part of the movie which is called "I, Tonya" which details the life of the skater The film was directed by Craig Gillespie which reminds me of another directer, Martin Scorsese who like the film "The Wolf of Wall Street," has the major character break from the movie to talk to the audience. Tonya Harding was brought up by her brutal movie, played by Allison Janney, who pulls off a Mommy Dearest performance that got her a Best supporting Oscar Nomination. No matter hard hard she tried to please her, her mother continues to insult her. Every paying one man to heckle her. I hope the people at the Alamo Drafthouse will use the mother-daughter scenes from the movie to promote gift cards on Mother's Day. The movie is easy to follow for those who saw the incident on television and those who don't, this movie for you. I also admire the editing which help the movie along. As i enter the theater, I didn't think that I like the movie, but when i came out, I love the movie. I hope you do too. Jan 28, 2018
Great writing, editing, and performances drive this character study. Allison Janney is sure to win Best Supporting Actress, and the movie as a whole doesn't disappoint. Feb 8, 2018
Good movie based on facts. This movie shows the 'other' side of the story. Very interesting and well done. Apr 5, 2018
Most of the film has an amateurish motif, grainy, annoyingly boring interviews with actors playing people that Tonya knew. You want to say, "Okay, we got it, director. Tonya had a horrible mother and husband/handler. Now move on and tell more about Tonya." The last part of the film is VERY good. You see how there COULD be another side to what you think happened. Was Tonya lying to the judge that she didn't know anything about the violence? Who knows. I left the theater just wishing that Tonya would meet someone kind, that she would be happy. I liked the credits at the end where you see what happened to the characters. Looking for more opinions?Check out our Featured Movie Reviews for I, Tonya. |
