There is a good plot in 'AXL" but the lame characters and weak script has kept the movie down. a robot dog which is trained for combat suddenly runs away and hooks up with a kid name Miles played by Alex Neustaedter. He play a motorcycle racer who been a butt of jokes from his fellow racers. he became friends with the robot dog and they became a target of the government over the dog. His love interest is played by Becky G, who needs better roles after that Lesbian turn in "Mighty Mophen Power Rangers." I love the actress, but she needs to be in better roles. the dog itself doesn't talk much and his features will scare kids. One robot dog I admire is k-9 from "Dr. Who." he's smart and likable and he doesn't scare kids. "AXL' should have been a fun movie, but it choose not to.
