Just stay away. No redeeming social values at all. A supreme waste of time. If you are looking for anything that has to do with Batman, forget it. If you want to look at how a weird person falls deeper into lunacy, then this is the movie for you, but I am betting most folks are looking for an easy escape. You won't find it here. Sorry, I'd rather watch A Sound of Thunder, again than this movie.

Anyone expecting anything that has come before in regards to the DC character of the Joker (nemesis of Batman) should shelve those expectations at the outset. This is a first-hand observation of the descent of a marginalized man with many personal issues into despair, delusion, and violence.

Joaquin Phoenix won an Oscar for his role as the titular character, and deservedly so. The movie lives and dies on his performance, and he delivers. He is completely believable, and his performance is essential to conveying the psychological mess unfolding on the screen.

I am glad to have seen it, but I really have no desire to see it again. I have said that before about a few other movies, but I would see all of them before I would see this one again. It was very well done, very well acted, and ultimately, very disturbing.
