What a wonderful movie. The acting was great, the storyline was great. I truly enjoyed every minute of this movie. One of the few movies that I will buy on DVD (I only buy the ones I really like a lot). Nov 15, 2001
My strong contender for best film of the year is "Life as a House." This movie has reminded me of the 1982 film "On Golden Pond," the film stars Kevin Kline in an Oscar calibur performance tells the story of an man who lost his passion for his family until he learned that he's dying and began to rebuilt his broken down shalf with the help of his rebellious son. Kline's performance shine thoughout the movie as well as strong performance from Kristin Scott Thomas and Jena Marlowe. "Life as a House" is full of life. Nov 27, 2001
This movie should receive some Oscar nominations. A great movie worth seeing now and buying for your home collection. Kevin Kline was great as well as a strong supporting cast. A tear jerker. Apr 12, 2004
A very good film about what a person does when they find out that they don't have much time left to live. At times, it gets a little maudlin, but for the most part, it is a movie that holds the story without making you feel manipulated (save for the unnecessary ending scene). Kevin Kline does a great job as the man whose life has just taken a radical turn, and Jena Malone shines as the confident teenager next door. Kristen Scott Thomas also has a strong performance, and while Hayden Christensen's performance was very good, it was very difficult to get visions of Anakin Skywalker out of my head as I was watching him. Some people may not buy into the premise of the film and don't want to confront the internal question of what you would do in a similar situation, and perhaps examine how you live your life now so that it doesn't come to the point of running out of time to do the things you should do but didn't have the courage or determination to make them a priority in your life. If you watch this film and you don't ask yourself those questions, that makes its own statement altogether. By the end of the story, you care about the characters and how everything turns out for them. These are marks of a strong film and it comes very close to a "See Now!" rating in my book.
