I was no stranger to "Shazam" or I rather called it "The Original Captain Marvel, although the movie never mention that." (not to be confused with the Marvel's version of "Captain Marvel" now playing in theaters) When The original Captain Marvel debut in comics in 1940, It didn't started out as a DC comics, I was under Fawcett Publications and it's title Whiz Comics. DC Comics took Fawcett to court saying that The Original Captain Marvel is too close in resemblance to "Superman." Unfortunately, Fawcett settle and ended their run in 1953. But DC brought back the hero in 1973 re titled "Shazam." But the Original Captain Marvel didn't become part of the DC Universe until "Crisis of Infinite Earth" in 1985. The film opens with the origin of the film's villain Dr. Sivana who was called by Shazam, but didn't get the power because his heart is evil. Cut to the present where a orphan named Billy Batson who ended up at a group home where he met Freedy Freeman, if you follow the comic book series like I have, you'll know what will happen next. Batson, got his powers from Wizard Shazam and yes, he battle Dr. Sivana. I won't reveal the ending, but there are a lots of twist and turns. Also, You will have fun with the movie. Also I noticed that there are no Shazam toy figures. How about going down to the comic ship and buy some back issues of Shazam. Don't try to buy Whiz Comics #2. I'll cost you a whole lot of money. And stay for the credits. I can't stress it more.
