I will always be a die-hard Christopher Nolan Batman fan, so it was a tough hill for this movie to climb to reach that level of regard for me, but director Matt Reeves knows how to make a movie (I very much enjoyed his Planet of the Apes movies). Seeing Robert Pattinson put his vampire past behind him was gratifying, and he actually does a better job at times of playing the masked superhero than Christian Bale did.

This movie probably falls into third place, with The Dark Knight and Batman Begins taking the first and second spots. It will be interesting to see what they can do with a sequel, and if they can somehow manage a third movie that doesn't fall flat. Reeves managed to do very good movies in a franchise with Planet of the Apes, so maybe they should stick to two installments and leave it at that?

I saw it a few months ago, and I'd be willing to watch it again. If you appreciate a good action movie as well as a comic book superhero movie, The Batman is worth a look.
