The Scorpion is a prequel to a sequel for the popular 'Mummy' series. Hope your not too confused. The action packed thriller brings the WWF star The Rock to the big screen in his first major starring role.

The trailer which revels the ammense action in the film explains it all. The story goes that Mathayus is part of a clan of assasins trained in the deadly arts. He is hired to kill the sorcerer who is helping Memnar, a cruel tyrant, rule the land. But when he finds she is a woman and is being held against her will, he trys to save her.

The film is jammed with action after action sequences but the parts don't seem to hold together. This is the first 'Mummy' related film not directed by Stephen Sommers and you can tell. As cheesy as many people claim the 'Mummy' and 'The Mummy Returns' are, the story lines for those two hold together better then 'The Scorpion King'. The film is forced to get into romantic and silly situations to appease people who wouldn't like action films.

The Rock actually does a great job as the Scorpion King and seems like he was actually built for this role. Kelly Hu, who play Cassandra, seems too much in a typical woman role but does get involved in some action sequences which is nice to see change in Hollywood. Overall the acting is good but not great which really isn't necessary for an action film.

Overall the film will definitely bring in the young male audience either for the action sequences or partial nudity, for it starring WWF's The Rock, or for those who liked 'The Mummy' films. But the film probly won't appeal to those who are picky about storylines or aren't fans of the action films.

My Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Do you smell what the Rock's cooking? And the answer's simple,"The Scorpion King," an action picture which is a spin-off from "The Mummy" starring the Rock as an assassin who battles a tyrant who runs a kingdom with his bare hands.

Lots of action and a few laughs. Kelly Hu is appealing as a sorcrer. She's one beautiful woman. I like this film a lot.

Does not rate up with either Mummy movie, but still a solid action flic. The Rock got the job done. Michael Clarke Duncan fell short.

I really liked "The Mummy", I really did NOT like "The Mummy Returns" and I really HATED "The Scorpion King". "Oh, if he lives he will always have the scorpion in his blood". STUPID!

The Rock was an ok actor. He will be in other movies, he is the next "Arnold". Michael Clarke Duncan was bad, just plain bad. His battle scenes were very weak. Kelly Hu was not spectacular. The head bad guy (I forgot his name) was the best actor of the lot.

Again, my opinion, is that the Studio wasnt sure if the Rock would fly so it didnt want to put TONS of money in the movie. They saved there money on special effects. They were poor! No where near as good as what we have seen in the other two Mummy movies.

I rate this movie 1 1/2 stars out of 5. This is the worst movie I have rated on this website. Not even worth the rental or cheap theature, it's an hour and a half of your life that you can never get back. If you want to see an action movie - save your money for Spider Man or Attack of the Clones in a few weeks.

Too cheesy to be anything but just another action movie.
