A very powerful movie about the Middle East. \"Syriana\" is a strong powerful well-acted and well-directed film that\'s questioned the US\'s involvement in the Middle East. If you can\'t watch the evening news on television or read a newspaper, the next best thing is watch this movie. You will come away a smarter person.

This was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. The summary for the movie goes, "the story of how the CIA lost funding and let its guard down in the Middle East after the end of the Cold War, allowing the creation of terrorist networks." The movie has nothing to do with this whatsoever. The featured critic states that every 126 minutes of the movie are necessary to tell the plot, but that is simply untrue. The plot could be told in one sentence and leave you feeling just as satisfied. Here goes: "The U.S. Government will do anything to acquire oil." The premise of the movie might be more engaging if the film's example of what the U.S. would do was not a complete fabrication that could never occur.

Syriana is not so much a documentary or a drama, but a brief glimpse into the lives of the involved parties.

The storyline is complex and non-linear, and confusing enough to say that perhaps one viewing is not enough to fully understand what the viewer has seen. The movie begs to be discussed after seeing it, since everyone will come away with a different impression.

This is why I'm giving Syriana a "Wait for Rental" rating. It needs to be seen more than once, or at the very least, you need the opportunity to go back and watch certain scenes to see how they relate to each other.
