Long movie...be prepared to think throughout the movie. You are never sure who is the good guy or who is the bad guy. Dec 30, 2006
"Good" does not quite capture this film for me. If there were an "average plus," that would be more accurate. De Niro did a good job as a director. For the scenes to be almost Taxi-cab-gray-dreary-esk throughout the long film, you have to do a good job to keep someone's interest. It did. Matt Damon is becoming a very good actor. Jolie is breathtaking, of course....and does a very good job in this film playing the tormented abandoned CIA wife. It is certainly important to get an insight into how an elite class really does rule our nation, often coming from Yale and Harvard. The origins of the CIA is important to know...but the script left me wondering how this band of elites, often with unchecked power, can justify the killings. Are these dedicated souls there for service, for power, for glory? We don't know. The film should have at least touched on that. Jan 1, 2007
slow and boring. Jan 6, 2007
Very interesting movie and a shocking portrayal of the CIA. This movie has excellent acting but it was kind of boring. It was almost three hours long and by the end of the movie I felt as if something had sucked all of my energy out. So, good movie to see once- Interesting, but not very entertaining. Sep 30, 2008
One of the best spy movies in years. "The Good Shepherd" is an unfliching history of the CIA from World World 2 to Cuba, as seen though the eyes of a CIA agent who has seen it all.Matt damon gave the best performance of his career. His loyality to the CIA had strain his relationship with his wife (played by Angelina Jolie) and leading his son to go down the same path as him. The film is directed by Robert DeNiro, his best film as director since "A Bronx Tale" back in 1993. the film might be a little long and slow, but when you sat though this two hour and 40 minute, it'll be wroth it.
