Outstanding. It ranks right up there with "...Private Ryan". You must sit through all the still photos at the end while the credits run. It reinforced for me the truth that, "Freedom isn't Free". Let's all try to remember those who have gone in harm's way so that we can have the freedoms we do today.

This is academy award material.

"Flags" is not the typical action-war film, though there is an abundance of that. It looks at war from the participants point of view. Everyone else who owns, sells, dictates policy, etc. - they're there too. And you see that the public, in the end, is often the last to know the real story. I thought the film was only average because the film jumped about too much. I didn't really care much about the characters. The soliders fought for each other...and to stay alive. You see the devestation of war, which Eastwood is trying to show. No one is really the hero. And there's no clear bad guys. Eastwood is releasing another film in January, I understand, about the same battle - but from the Japanese point of view. Yes, this is a war that we often glorify, but it was a costly war in which those who sacrificed the most often, even then, (hence the post war histories of the characters) weren't appreciated.

"Flag of Our Fathers" is another excellent movie directed by Clint Eastwood. althopugh is not as good as "Saving Private Ryan<' it had it's moments. The film tells about the people who hoist the flag over Iwo Jima and the people conneted with that flag raising and the events that occured after the men got home. this is clint Eastwood's best movie, but he's got the heart to tell the story. In January, he's going to tell the same battle though the eyes of the Japanese. That would be an intresting film indeed. I'll recommend "Flag of Our Fathers," but not one of the best films of 2006.

The film drags a bit at the end, but not in a way that really detracts from it. I think this will make my top 10 list.

This is one of the most powerful movies I have ever seen. The crowd I saw it with must have agreed because as people exited, the theater remained silent. Stay through the credits as they show actual photos of the men featured in the movie.
