George Clooney gives the year's best performance in the mosrt suspense performance. Tom Wilkinson blew off the roof in a powerful performance as a man who went mad after knowing something illegal and suspects that someone is out to get him. "Michael Clayton" is a first-rate drama.

George Clooney carries this movie, and without a great performance from him, it's not going to work. Fortunately, he holds his own and delivers a great role of a man cornered by his circumstances and facing the fact that while he has a nice car, a nice apartment, and a unique job at a prestigious law firm, he doesn't have much of value after all.

When a top litigator at his firm goes off the deep end during a deposition while working with one of their largest clients, the firm sends Michael Clayton in to fix the situation, which is his specialty.

Unfortunately for Michael, he realizes that going off the deep end is the more sane thing to do when faced with the reality of what he finds and his loyalties are put to a test.

Tom Wilkinson does a great job of playing the off-the-script litigator, exuding such passion that you can't help but cheer for him. The rest of the supporting cast is also very good.

My one complaint after looking back on the movie is that it wasn't as deep as it could have been. Tilda Swinton's character is very undeveloped and the climactic scene of the movie lacks the tension it could have held if there had been a little more of a adversarial relationship between her character and Clooney's.

Michael Clayton is definitely worth a rental, and considering some of the other choices out there, I think it's worth a "Good" rating. It's not a movie I would own, but I'm glad to have seen it.
