I had the same problem with "the Soloist" as with "August Rush" a few years ago. Very little story, but good casting from Keri Russell among others. but I like the movie because of strong performances from Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx, plus my love for classical music, Foxx plays Nataniel Ayers a talented performer who end out on the streets of Los Angeles, playing his music and fighting off the demons that kept him from movie on. Downey Jr. plays a reporter for the Los Angeles Times who tries to help him out and at the same time trying to get his life restarted again. I like this movie, but I wish i could've like this movie a lot more.

Saw this movie today. It wasn't what I'd hoped it would be. From the previews, it looked like an uplifting flick with a happy ending. It wasn't. The beginning started out promising with a few believable comic scenes and a genuinely interesting story, but soon dragged into the tragic world of homelessness, mental illness, substance abuse and wasted lives. It stayed there for the rest of the movie.

Based on a true story, it was well acted and tragically believable--the real life, up close and ugly side of our society. If you're looking for entertainment and a "feel good" movie, save your money. This one was downright depressing.
