This is Clooney's best. He is so ultra-cool in this movie. He's a classic Indiana Jones only better

This is an action movie that seems to draw on and on forever. The beginning of the movie is very exciting but the action falls off after that till near the end. I can't say that I was terribly disappointed in this movie, however, because I didn't expect a lot going in. Clooney does an ok job in his role, but I think there are several other guys out there that would have done better. Nicole Kidman was ok. Thats about it for the whole movie. Just ok. The music throughout the movie was very clever, and used very well to set the tone. I think it helped immensely that I heard it with digital sound. The bottom line: if you can see it with digital sound in a nice theater, you might come out liking it. Anything less and you'll probably be disappointed.

Rating: GOOD at full price, GREAT with a discount coupon, EXCELLENT at budget prices. Truly Starring: George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Armin Mueller-Stahl But Also Starring: Michael Boatman (one of my favorite actors in TVS "China Beach")

First of all...I really liked it (but I used a Gold C discount coupon to get in). If you like action films with a political twist, then this film is for you. George Clooney stars as Lt. Colonel Thomas Devoe and Nicole Kidman is Dr. Julia Kelly, who are responsible for tracking down a group of people who have stolen nuclear warheads. Clooney and Kidman work great in this film, but you will find that once more Hollywood places the woman in an important role only to have her break down and cry when things begin to get rough (remember Glenn Close did this in "Air Force One" also)...but thank goodness the guys are always there to comfort them or to turn their heads and give them their private moment (I bet Janet Reno and Madaline Albright are always in tears at those Clinton cabinet meetings).

This film was far from being unique, but it kept your interest and the opening scene would make any SOME (Society of Model Engineers) member proud. I was extremely impressed with George Clooney, he was actually funny, tough, but more importantly...believable in his role. Basic premise of this film is your standard "someone stole a weapon of mass destruction and heading for the United States" scenario. How do you make a film like this...you take the story line from one of Steven Segal's "Under Siege" films, then add a bit of Chuck Norris' "Invasion USA", a dab of "Hunt for Red October", and a splash of Oliver North and you get "The Peacemaker". Bottom line...if you like political, action, and thriller combination-type movies...then this film is for you...it may not "blow you away", but it is far from being a "bomb".

"The Peacemaker" looks as if its yet another boring "terrorists hijack something and hold the world ransom type of deal". Instead, it's a breathtaking yet stupid, dynamic yet thin, and action packed "terrorists hijack something and hold the world ransom type of deal".

This time, a la 007, its a bunch of nukes that are being sold internationally. After one is set off (after a wonderful shot which unfortunately gets cut off short), it triggers the U.S. Nuclear response team, lead by Nicole Kidman, to stop these terrorists. Also, enter an army general (George Clooney) who gives Kidman some army intelligence to these bad guys.

What follows is a wonderful barrage of great movie shots and sequences, including a car chase, a helicopter chase, and a street chase in New York. Director Mimi Leder (who has done several ER episodes) is a master at action, throwing one curve of action after another at you. There are enough twists and slams of action to make your heart stop.

And this is by far George Clooney's best performance as army general Tom Devoe. Finally he puts all off his charasmatic charms onto the screen, being funny, attractive, and total daredevil all at the same time. Nicole Kidman gives her best performance since "To Die For", and although it could have used a little bit more kick, I sure love her new hair.

Grade: B+

Tech Review:

Picture: 5 Gorgeous detail into every scene. The picture always explodes with rich color, perfect tones, and excellent blacks. It almost looks real.

Sound: 5 Presented in all three formats, I got to hear a harsh and undetailed dts mix in a cheap new theatre. I'm blaming the dumbass theatre on this one. A better theatre, I know, will really bring out this movie

Photography: 5 Unconfirmed shot in Super 35, but Mimi Leder's photography is one of a kind: clear, and always filled. No dead area. Look for this one in widescreen on video and disc.

I must admit, the only reason I wanted to see this movie was because it had an atomic explosion that looked really cool in the previews. And I was not disappointed -- the explosion was terrific, the best explosion of its kind on the big screen since Terminator 2. That alone to me was worth the price of admission (which wasn't much, since I saw a matinee).

As for the rest of the movie, I must say I was surprised at how good it was. It's just another one of those in-your-face action thrillers that doesn't stop for a second. What I liked most about this movie, aside from the nuclear blast, was its devoted intensity. The actors did not merely "go through the motions" as you see with most action-adventures, owing I suppose in large part to the casting George Cloony, who's still a fresh face in the action genre. All in all, maybe not a "classic," but still a very enjoyable flick and a good way to spend some free time.

The Peacemaker 1997 George Clooney & Nicole Kidman Another propaganda type movie. The American good guys save the world from the non or un-American bad guys. Ho-hum. The action scenes are good, but you've seen some of them before with different actors. For me, the strangest scene was when Kidman's character cries over the deaths of nine American servicemen, but is apparently unconcerned about the people who died in the train wreck & subsequent explosion. Not to mention the populations of Europe & Russia who will be harmed or killed by nuclear radiation. The movie is ok (6 out of 10), but don't pay too much to rent it.

George Cloony and Nicole Kidman worked well together in \"the Peacemaker,\" the first feature film from Dreamworks Pictures. They play federal agents who are searching for those persopns resposible for stealing some nuclear bombs in this thriller.
