I nearly fell asleep in the middle of this useless flick. Compared to the early movies of Shaft this one should have never left the cutting room floor.

Samuel L. Jackson is still continuing to kick ?# and is as bad as I know he can be. The good guys were good, and the bad guys were really, really bad. The music was awesome... just like a 70's or 80's prime time drama.

The main bad guy was really scary, and the schlep caught in the middle was well-cast for the role.

Vanessa Williams' skin was really grainy.

Samuel L. Jackson at his "best". He uses similar (if not the same) lines that he has used in all his movies. Fun good guy vs. bad guys movie that is high on entertainment and low on originality.

Must see for action/adventure fans, but leave the kids at home. This is very violent, and not suitable for a younger audience.

Overall, I recommend this film because Samuel L. Jackson is good at being BADDDD!

I actually rented the original blaxpolitation movie ‘Shaft’ just remind myself of the original character played by Richard Rowntree, and to compare it with the updated version with Samuel L Jackson.

This version is a lot more violent than the original; although, to be honest, I felt that the original was just a little corny regarding Shafts sexual prowess (Every woman was just queuing to have sex with him).

So, action fans won’t be too disappointed as Shaft disposes of the bad guys left, right and center. And there’s a pretty cool car/motor bike chase scene.

In general, the first half of the movie is very slick and cool, just like Shaft. But the second half loses a lot of that and drifts into just another Good Guys v Bad Guys kinda thang.

Samuel L. Jackson does an excellent job in the lead role and there are some good character roles played by Christian Bale (Walter Williams), Vanessa L. Williams (Carmen), Christian Bale (Dan Hedaya) and especially Jeffrey Wright (Peoples Hernandez) I almost got to like and sympathize with his character.

Overall, not a bad nights entertainment 7/10 glenk@foxit.com.au
