As much as I want to give this movie a “See Now!” rating, and no matter how much the fact that it’s a monster slug-fest action movie that really needs to be seen in the theater (or home theater) that you can find, I can’t justify giving the highest rating to a movie that just can’t measure up to its predecessors.

I thought the 2014 reboot of Godzilla was quite good and deserving of the top rating here. Likewise, Kong: Skull Island was pretty good (though not as good as Peter Jackson’s 2005 movie). Godzilla: King of the Monsters was a mess, which colored my expectations for this installment in both directions. I didn’t really have any burning desire to see these two go head to head, but I did want it to be better than the last time we saw Godzilla on the big screen. In that, I was not disappointed.

The CGI is very good, and the sound is incredible! If you’re a Godzilla/Kong fan, run don’t walk to purchase every piece of home theater equipment you can afford, and prepare yourself to enjoy a loud raucous movie. If you live in apartment, the eviction notice will be worth it!

However, all the technology in the world can’t hide faults in a lacking storyline. I’ve seen much worse, but in this day and age, we can expect better. We don’t watch these movies for their award winning screenplays, though, so the enjoyment to be had is well worth the investment!
