Ashtabula, OH: Ashtabula Towne Square Movie Theater Reopens

Now Open sign

Movies haven't played in Ashtabula, Ohio for more than two years, but that just changed with the opening of the J-PAL Cinemas.

The first day of operation for the movie theater was December 19, 2025 with showings of Avatar: Fire and Ash and Zootopia 2. It plans to be open Fridays through Mondays during the school year, and when schools are out, they will add Thursday showtimes.

Located in the Ashtabula Towne Square on North Ridge Road E, the movie theater was previously known as the AMC Classic Ashtabula Mall 6 when it closed in July 2023. That left moviegoers in the area with no movie theaters closer than 30 miles away, so the news of the theater's reopening should be welcome to everyone looking to watch movies on the big screen!

Instead of opening all six screens, it appears that they have opened four screens, with the other two rooms being used for community events and live shows in the future.

The movie theater is being operated by local residents and business owners Anthony and Lindsay Pascarella. Reinforcing the fact that it's a family business, the theater's name corresponds to their first initials as well as those of their children, Jackson and Piper. According to a recent news article (see below), Anthony managed the theater when it was operated by Carmike Cinemas in 2010.
