The Laemmle Claremont 5 in Claremont, California has closed.

As we reported in December, Regency Theatres is taking over the movie theater and will reopen it later this year.

The theater was operated by Laemmle Theatres, which continues to operate six movie theaters in California. The company posted a message on its website this week about the impending closure of its Claremont movie theater:

After 18 years in downtown Claremont, Laemmle Theatres will soon be closing the doors to our beloved Claremont 5 location.

This decision did not come easily. The Claremont 5 has been a meaningful part of our company’s history and, more importantly, of a community that showed up again and again for independent, foreign, and specialty films.

:

“What I’ll miss most isn’t just the theater—it’s sharing great films with incredible people,” commented Guy Valdez, Claremont’s general manager of 8+ years. “Thank you for supporting independent film and for making this place feel like home. I’m deeply grateful.”

Regency Theatres currently has 18 locations in California, Arizona, and Hawaii. Regency's closest location to Claremont is the Regency Foothill Cinema Stadium 10 in Azusa.

Where to Watch Movies on the Big Screen

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the AMC Dine-in Montclair 12 & IMAX in Montclair, the Regal Edwards Ontario Mountain Village in Ontario, and the Regal Edwards La Verne in La Verne. If you have Laemmle gift cards to use, the closest location is the Laemmle Glendale Theatre in Glendale, which is about 30 miles away.
