The 5 Mile Drive-In in Dowagiac, Michigan will not reopen for the 2024 season.

Located north of Dowagiac on M-152 and M-51 N, the theater originally opened in 1961. It delivered the news that it wouldn't open on its website and its Facebook page earlier this week:

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of 5 Mile Drive-In theater this summer. As a family-owned establishment, our operations are deeply intertwined with the well-being of our own family members. Unforeseen health challenges within our family require us to take a step back at this time.

In light of this, both 5 Mile Drive-In and its sister theater Sunset Drive-In are available for sale. Should you have any inquiries or wish to explore opportunities further, please reach out.

Their website also mentions that both this theater and its sister theater, the Sunset Drive-in in Hartford (which also is not opening for the 2024 season), are for sale.

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Loma Theatre in Coloma and the Strand Theatre in Paw Paw. The closest drive-in movie theater is the Tri-Way Drive-In in Plymouth, Indiana.
