The Highland Theater in Highland Park, California has been purchased by actor/director Kristen Stewart, who plans to bring the historic theater back to life after closing in 2024.
Of all places, the news of Stewart's purchase comes from a recent article in Architectural Digest (see below).
“I didn’t realize I was looking for a theater until this place came to my attention. Then it was like a gunshot went off and the race was on. I ran toward it with everything I had,” she recalls. “I’m fascinated by broken-down old theaters. I always want to see what mysteries they hold.”
The article mentions that, while the "bones" of the theater are largely intact, it will require a large effort to bring her plans to fruition. More power to her as she pursues this dream!
There's no mention of when the theater may reopen again, so we'll keep the theater marked as inactive for now, but hopefully, people in the area will see an "opening soon" sign there in the near future.
Where to Watch Movies on the Big Screen
Until it opens, moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Vidiots in Los Angeles and the IPIC Pasadena and Regal Paseo in Pasadena.
