The Cinelounge Sunset in Hollywood, California has closed.
Located on Sunset Boulevard and Wilcox Avenue, the last day the theater provided showtimes was February 27, 2025. The theater specialized in showing arthouse and independent movies in addition to studio releases. It was known as the Arena Cinelounge Hollywood Sunset until August 2022.
According to an article published in the Hollywood Times, founder and CEO Christian Meoli is holding out hope for someone to come along and help them reopen the theater:
“We did the best we could to hold on as long as we could and we are heartbroken Los Angeles loses another screen devoted to servicing the Industry and most importantly the thousands of independent filmmakers we championed and introduced and showcased over our 10 years. If someone could come in and support our endeavors it wouldn’t take much for us to be back up and running, but we’ve carried the flag as far as we could go”
Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Egyptian Theatre, the El Capitan Theatre, and the TCL Chinese Theatres & IMAX in Hollywood. Cinelounge fans can visit the Cinelounge Tiburon in the San Francisco area, but you're going to need to pack a lunch, as it's more than a six-hour drive.
