The B & B Mainstreet KC at the Power & Light District in Kansas City, Missouri has closed.

Located just north of I-670 on West 14th Street and Main Street, the movie theater closed Sunday, March 1, 2026. Its closure was announced that day on the theater's Facebook page:

B&B routinely reviews the theatres in our circuit and makes decisions based on what will best strengthen the Company going forward. After thoughtful review, we have made the decision to exit this location.

We are deeply grateful to our Mainstreet KC guests for their loyalty and support over the years. It has truly meant so much to us. We encourage you to continue enjoying the B&B experience at our other Kansas City locations in Shawnee, Overland Park, Liberty, Lee’s Summit, Harrisonville, Grain Valley and Leavenworth.

In addition to showing movies, the Johnnie's Jazz Bar & Grille, which offered live music, food, and drinks. It closed Saturday. Based in Liberty, Missouri, B & B Theatres operates locations in Missouri, Kansas, and across the country. 

Theater History

While it dates back to 1921, B & B Theatres opened the theater in 2021. It was previously known as the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Mainstreet, which closed during the pandemic and never reopened after Alamo Drafthouse Cinema declared bankruptcy in March 2021, and the company announced that the Mainstreet location would not reopen. Before that, it was known as the AMC Mainstreet 6 when it closed in 2012 and was reopened shortly thereafter by Alamo Drafthouse. AMC opened the theater in 2009.

Where to Watch Movies on the Big Screen

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Regnier Extreme Screen Theatre in Kansas City and the Screenland Armour in North Kansas City. If you have B & B Theatres gift cards to use, the closest location is the B & B Northland 14.
