After more than five years, movies on the big screen are returning to Keokuk, Iowa!

When the Plaza 3 Cinema in the River City Mall closed in March 2020, moviegoers had to travel to the Fox Theater in Fort Madison and Lewis Street Playhouse in Canton, Missouri to watch movies as they were intended to be seen. Not only has the movie theater been given a new life as the The Revival Cinema, but the shopping center itself is part of the changes as well.

The Revival Cinema celebrated its grand opening November 15, 2025 in the renamed Keosippi Center, which is located at Main Street and 3rd Street. Two of the previous theater's three screens are showing movies, with reclining chairs to provide a comfortable movie-watching experience. The third screen could open if the demand is high enough, so if you're in the Keokuk area, this is your opportunity to show them what kind of interest there is for watching movies in a communal space!

The shopping center was purchased in October 2024 and the new owner has been cleaning and improving the space since. A news article published by WGEM in June (see below) mentioned that the mall had some issues ("black mold everywhere"), but plans were afoot to make the former shopping center into an entertainment destination. Changing the name to the Keosippi Center was probably key to wiping the slate clean and having a fresh start in the community.
