Memphis, TN: Dating to 1966, Malco's Drive-In Closing

After almost 60 years in operation, the Malco Summer Drive-In in Memphis, Tennessee will be closing soon.

Located near I-40 and Summer Avenue, the outdoor movie theater will show its last movies under the stars on May 18, 2025. It originally opened September 1, 1966 as the Malco Summer Twin Drive-In. It was expanded to three screens in 1986 as the Summer Trio, and when it was expanded to four screens in 1987 and was known as the Summer Quartet Drive In and Malco Summer 4 Drive-In.

After the final shows this weekend, moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Malco Paradiso Cinema Grill & IMAX and the Malco Ridgeway Cinema Grill. For the outdoor movie experience, you'll need to 70 miles to the northeast to visit the Tennessee Safari Drive-In Theater in Alamo.
