The Marcus Shakopee Cinema in Shakopee, Minnesota is closing after the last movies are played Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

Located in the Shakopee Town Square shopping center, the movie theater has been operated by Marcus Theatres Corporation since 1997, when it purchased six area theaters from Guetschoff Theatre Management. The company built the Marcus Southbridge Crossing Cinema, which opened in 2017. While we could not find any official statement by Marcus Theatres about the theater's closure, it's likely that the older theater was not as preferable as the newer one that offers more amenities, including Marcus' powered reclining DreamLounger seating and the premium UltraScreen DLX auditorium.

Property For Sale

The 41,000 square foot space is currently listed for sale for one million dollars. It's interesting that it is assessed at $1.9M, which may provide an additional clue about why it's being closed. The listing says that the building dates to 1975, but the furthest back we could find a record of a movie theater in that location is the mid-1990s.

You Still Have Time, Where To Go When Time Runs Out

You can still see what's playing and when, and buy tickets online, by visiting the Showtimes page for the Marcus Shakopee Cinema.

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Chanhassen Cinema in Chanhassen and the Marcus Southbridge Crossing Cinema in Shakopee.
