The Yellowstone Giant Screen Theatre in West Yellowstone, Montana has closed.

Located at the west entrance of the Yellowstone National Park on South Canyon Street and Yellowstone Avenue, the last time we received updates for this theater was September 25, 2025. However, the news of its permanent closure was made official with a post on the theater's Facebook page in early January that read simply: "The Yellowstone Giant Screen Theatre is permanently closed."

According to our records, the theater originally opened as the Yellowstone IMAX Theatre. By August 2016, it was no longer an IMAX theater, and was known as the Yellowstone Giant Screen Theatre. According to the theater's website, the screen measured 60′ x 80′. Given its proximity to the National Park, and its name, it's no surprise that the theater played the documentary, Yellowstone, on a regular basis. The theater's website mentions that props used in the documentary were on display in the lobby. It also played first-run movies, with the last one appearing to be Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale.

Where to Watch Movies on the Big Screen

Unfortunately, the options for movie theaters are pretty thin, Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including The Big Sky Waypoint, which is more than 40 miles away. If you want to see a movie on an IMAX-sized screen, you may have to travel all the way to Billings to visit the AMC Shiloh 14, which has an IMAX and "BigD" auditoriums.
